sun and shine

My great friend Annie and I took our chitlins down to Florida for a last minute girl get-away. We're quite fortunate to have such superbly awesome neighbors and friends. Our five-year-olds have grown up together and are 'best' friends, but can egg one-another on like antagonistic little sisters. Nothing a beach can't cure!

Some highlights from our sunny trip: the ringling circus museum model , the mote aquarium and the ski-a-rees.

I always dread returning home from holiday or any sort of get-away , but this time was different. my partner surprised me with freshly painted rooms, home repair and mopped floors which makes coming back to real-life quite A-OK!

Fiberglass. Animals. Shapes. Trademarks Corporation

E.T.

A sampling of F.A.S.T Corporation's treasure trove of goods. After driving through the Wisconsin Dells a lot of these sculptures are alive and well. Check out my previous post from F.A.S.T's fiberglass mold graveyard. Also you may be interested in my ongoing Flickr set of roadside culture—it's a good time (at least I think).

WOW, LOOK AT THIS ELEPHANT!

Germany / early 1960s
A German company, Deru made beautifully crafted figures of various animals with an imaginative, origami-like technique of crimping/sewing/riveting a single piece of leather.

I did some looking on ebay and other auction houses and previous auctions ended in the price range of 500-1200Euro!—eeks out of my budget but one of the most perfect objects I've come across.

If interested, go here, i think the elephant is still for sale.

found via Designers go to Heaven originally on Freaky Fauna's tumblr.

surplus

Ax-Mans' surplus stores are always a good rummage. the perfect resource where you can purchase sexy women posters, green vs. blue(?) bulbs, corks and always good colored masking tape (not shown). PLUS top-notch displays and commentary written by the staff.

Along U.S. 12 in Detroit

Hello! Unsure if anyone stops by here as it's been ages since my last post. I'm going to try to keep it up on a more regular basis as I have loads of images that are sitting on my desktop. Trying to decide where to focus my posting efforts, here on blogger, tumblr 1, tumblr 2, flickr... Ideally it will all be consolidated all on a website soon.

This post represents a mini inventory of signs and ephemera along U.S. 12 also known as Michigan Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. See more here and the actual photos on my flickr. Explanation to come!
